# Account

The Account page is where the admin sign-in for your site lives. From here you can update the admin email and password used to log in, and check which account is in use today. What the page shows depends on how your site handles sign-in: if you run on the built-in admin login, you'll see an editable form; if a connected sign-in system manages access, the page shows the account you're signed in as and sends you to the account workspace to change it. You need admin access to the site to open this page.

## What's on this page

### Header

The page title is **Account**. The line beneath it changes based on how your site signs in:

- **Built-in admin** — "Manage the built-in admin email and password for this site."
- **Connected sign-in** — "Your sign-in and profile for this site."

The rest of the page also changes between these two modes, described below.

### Built-in admin mode

When your site uses the built-in admin login, the page splits into two cards side by side.

#### Admin login (left)

The editable form, with the subtitle "Update the built-in owner sign-in." It has three fields and a button:

- **Admin email** — The email address used to sign in as admin. It fills in with the current email when the page loads.
- **New password** — The password you want to set. Leave the rest of the form as-is and type a new password here to change it.
- **Confirm password** — Re-type the same new password. This must match **New password** exactly.
- **Save changes** — Saves the email and password. While saving, the button reads "Saving..." and the form is locked. After a successful save, a green success notice reads "Admin login updated." and both password fields clear.

If something needs your attention, a notice appears just above the button. It can be a success message, an error, or an informational note.

#### Current access (right)

A read-only summary card with the subtitle "The account this admin uses today." It shows:

- **Admin email** — The email currently in use, or "Not configured" if none is set yet.
- **Sign-in type** — Either "Built-in owner login" (a full owner account is set up) or "Setup access" (the site is still using initial setup access and a permanent owner login hasn't been saved yet).

While the page is still loading, this card shows an information notice reading "Loading account settings..." and the form fields and button are disabled until loading finishes.

### Connected sign-in mode

If a connected sign-in system manages access to your site, the page shows a single card titled **Current access**, with the subtitle "The account this admin uses today." It shows:

- **Name** — The display name on the account you're signed in as, or "Not set".
- **Admin email** — The address you're signed in with, or "Not configured".
- **Manage profile and password** — Opens the account workspace in a new tab, where your profile, password, and team membership are edited.

There are no editable fields on this page in this mode.

## Common things you can do here

These tasks apply to built-in admin mode. In connected sign-in mode, use **Manage profile and password** and make these changes in the account workspace instead.

### Change the admin email

In the **Admin login** card, update **Admin email** to the new address. Because saving also requires a password, type the current or a new password into **New password** and **Confirm password**, then click **Save changes**. After it saves, the **Current access** card on the right updates to show the new email.

### Change the admin password

Type the new password into **New password**, then type it again into **Confirm password** so the two match. Click **Save changes**. The password fields clear once the save succeeds, and the success notice reads "Admin login updated."

### Check which account is currently in use

Look at the **Current access** card on the right. **Admin email** shows the address in use, and **Sign-in type** tells you whether the site is on a full "Built-in owner login" or still on "Setup access."

## Tips

- **Saving needs a password.** Every save sets a password, so fill in both **New password** and **Confirm password** even when you're only changing the email.
- **Passwords need at least 8 characters.** Anything shorter is rejected before the save runs.
- **Watch for "Setup access."** If **Sign-in type** reads "Setup access," your site hasn't saved a permanent owner login yet. Set an admin email and password here to move to "Built-in owner login."
- **Password fields clear on success.** Empty password fields after a save mean it worked, not that something was lost.
- **A connected sign-in system changes this page.** When one manages access, this page shows who you're signed in as and hands off to the account workspace for edits.

## Troubleshooting

- **"Enter an admin email."** — The **Admin email** field is empty. Type an address before saving.
- **"Enter a valid admin email."** — The address is missing an "@". Use a full email address such as you@example.com.
- **"Use at least 8 characters for the new password."** — The password is too short. Choose one with at least eight characters.
- **"The password confirmation does not match."** — **New password** and **Confirm password** are different. Re-type them so they match exactly.
- **The form fields and button are greyed out?** — The page is still loading (the **Current access** card shows "Loading account settings...") or a save is in progress (the button reads "Saving..."). Wait a moment and try again.
- **There's no form, just a "Current access" card?** — A connected sign-in system manages admin access for your site. Use **Manage profile and password** to update your email, password, or team membership.
