# Lists

The Lists section is where you manage every audience list you can send email campaigns to. From here you can see every list at a glance, check how many recipients each one has, see which campaigns are targeting each list, and jump in to add a new list or clean up an existing one.

## What's on this page

### Header

At the top of the section you'll find:

- **Title and count chips** — A "Lists" heading with two small chips beneath it: one showing the total number of lists, the other the total number of campaigns across all lists.
- **Clean Lists** — Opens the [Clean Lists](clean-email-lists.md) walk-through, which finds risky recipients (invalid, bounced, inactive) and helps you decide what to do with them.
- **New List** — Opens the **New list** builder page, where you choose who belongs on the list and watch the audience count settle before creating it. See [Add / Edit a List](add-edit-email-list.md) for the full flow.

### Toolbar

Just above the table:

- **Source** dropdown — Filter the list table to Dynamic, Public, Private, Archived, or All sources.
- **Search** — Type any part of a list name to filter the table. The search also matches the source label (for example, "archived").

### The list table

Each row is one audience list. The columns are:

- **List** — The list name, with the source label underneath (for example, "Private list").
- **Source** — A pill showing how the list was built: Dynamic tag list, Public list, Private list, or Archived list. A Dynamic list is automatically kept in sync from a visitor tag (the people who picked up that tag while browsing your site), so its members update on their own.
- **Recipients** — How many confirmed, sendable memberships are on the list. Pending, unsubscribed, and bounced memberships remain visible on the details page.
- **Campaigns** — How many campaigns have ever targeted this list.
- **Scheduled** — How many campaigns are currently scheduled to send to this list.
- **Last Sent** — When a campaign last completed sending to this list. Shows "Never sent" if nothing has gone out yet.
- **Next Scheduled** — When the next scheduled campaign will send to this list. Shows "Nothing scheduled" if no future sends are queued.

Click any row to open the list's [details page](email-list-details.md) and see every recipient with their engagement stats.

## Common things you can do here

### Find a specific list

Type into the **Search** box. It matches against the list name and the source label, so searching `archived` will surface every archived list.

### See which lists drive the most sends

Look at the **Campaigns** and **Last Sent** columns. A list with many campaigns and a recent "Last Sent" date is one of your active workhorses.

### See what's coming up

The **Scheduled** column shows how many campaigns are queued for each list. **Next Scheduled** shows when the next one will fire. Use these to make sure you haven't accidentally double-booked the same audience.

### Create a new list

Click **New List** in the top right to open the **New list** builder page. Under **Who's on this list**, pick one of three tiles: **People with a tag** builds a Dynamic list from one or more visitor tags (choose **Any of these** or **All of these** when combining tags) and stays in sync as people earn or lose them; **Everyone with an email** creates the **Site Users** snapshot from eligible site contacts such as form submissions, bookings, and subscribers; **Upload a CSV** imports a file of contacts. The **Who's on it today** panel on the right shows how many people with an email address qualify right now, plus the first few recipients, before you click **Create list**. Contacts who are suppressed, opted out, or missing active consent are skipped. See [Add / Edit a List](add-edit-email-list.md) for the full walkthrough.

### Clean up before a big send

Click **Clean Lists** in the top right. The walk-through scans every list for invalid emails, bounces, suppressed addresses, inactive subscribers, and unsubscribes, and lets you suppress, remove, or set them aside for review. See [Clean Lists](clean-email-lists.md).

### Open a list to see its recipients

Click any row. The [list details page](email-list-details.md) shows every recipient and how each one has engaged with your sends (sent, delivered, opened, clicked, bounced).

## Tips

- **Source pills are color-coded.** Dynamic, Public, Private, and Archived each have their own visual style so you can scan the table quickly.
- **Dynamic lists update themselves.** A Dynamic list is built from one or more visitor tags, so its members are added and removed automatically as people pick up or lose those tags. You don't import contacts into one — build it from the **People with a tag** tile on the New list page.
- **Site Users lists update on demand.** Open the list and click **Update from users** to add newly eligible site contacts. The **Everyone with an email** tile on the New list page reports an existing Site Users list and opens it rather than creating another one.
- **Overview recipient counts are confirmed memberships.** Open a list to see pending, unsubscribed, and bounced memberships too.
- **Numbers refresh when you reopen the section.** Counts update after imports complete and after campaigns finish sending.
- **Permissions matter.** If you don't have permission to manage lists, the **Clean Lists** and **New List** buttons are disabled. Ask an admin for the **Manage email lists** or **Import contacts** permission if you need access.

## Troubleshooting

- **No lists yet?** The table shows **No email lists yet.** Click **New List** to import a CSV or build a list from your existing users. Lists also get created automatically by some import flows. While the section is loading you'll see **Loading lists...**, and if your filters hide everything the table reads **No lists match this view.**
- **Watch the confirmation.** Creating a list shows a toast naming the list and how many people it started with, then opens the list. Permission or server errors appear on the New list page itself, next to the field they concern.
- **A list shows 0 campaigns but you remember sending one?** The campaign may have been deleted, or it may have targeted a different list — check the [Campaigns](campaigns.md) section to confirm.
- **Recipient count looks lower than the details page?** The overview counts confirmed memberships; the details page also shows pending, unsubscribed, and bounced memberships. Run [Clean Lists](clean-email-lists.md) for the full hygiene breakdown.
- **Can't find a list you know exists?** Set the **Source** filter to **All sources** — it might be archived. Search by name to filter further.
