# Routines

Routines are saved sequences of steps the assistant runs for you, either on a schedule or whenever you press a button. A routine might pull data, ask an AI model to summarize it, then hand the result off to the next step. This page is where you land when you open the Routines section. From here you see every routine at a glance, check whether each one is running and how often it succeeds, turn routines on or off, and open one to edit, schedule, or run it.

## What's on this page

### Summary stats

A row of three counts sits at the top:

- **On** — How many routines are currently active.
- **Off** — How many routines are turned off.
- **Total** — The total number of routines.

### Search & filter

- **Search** — Type any part of a title, description, or label to filter the list. The placeholder reads "Find by title, description, or label".
- **Status** — A dropdown to narrow the list. Options are **All routines**, **On**, **Off · stopped**, and **Off · draft**.

### The routines table

The main view is a table listing every routine. Click any column header to sort; the list starts sorted by routine name. Each row shows:

- **Status** — A toggle switch. When it's on, the routine is active. A small label below reads **On**, **Off · stopped**, or **Off · draft**.
- **Routine** — The routine title in bold, with its description below.
- **Schedule** — The schedule in plain language (for example, "Daily at 9am") with the timezone below it.
- **Trigger** — Shows **Schedule** (runs automatically) or **Manual** (only runs when you press Run).
- **Last run** — When the routine last ran (for example, "2 hours ago"), with the total number of runs below. Shows "No runs yet" if it has never run.
- **Success** — The share of recent runs that succeeded, as a percentage, or "n/a" if there's nothing to measure yet. The number turns amber as success slips and red when it drops low.

### Row actions

Each row shows a set of icon buttons on the right:

- **View info** (history icon) — Opens the routine's run history and details.
- **Schedule** (calendar icon) — Opens the schedule dialog so you can set when the routine runs.
- **Open** (pencil icon) — Opens the routine in the editor. See [Routine Detail](routine-detail.md).
- **Delete** (× icon) — Removes the routine after you confirm. Only appears on routines you created.

### Header buttons

At the top right of the section:

- **Manage scripts** — Opens the Scripts page, where you manage the reusable script helpers your routines can call. See [Scripts](scripts.md).
- **New routine** — Creates a new draft routine titled "Untitled routine" and opens it in the editor.

## Common things you can do here

### Find a specific routine

Type into the **Search** box. It matches the title, description, and any labels, so you can search by what a routine does, not just its name. To narrow by state, set the **Status** dropdown to **On**, **Off · stopped**, or **Off · draft**.

### Turn a routine on or off

Flip the toggle in the **Status** column. Turning it on activates the routine so it runs on its schedule; turning it off stops scheduled runs. The label below the toggle updates to show the new state.

### Create a routine

Click **New routine** in the top right. A fresh draft titled "Untitled routine" opens in the editor, where you give it a name and add its steps. See [Routine Detail](routine-detail.md) for the full walkthrough.

### Schedule a routine

Click the calendar icon on the row. The schedule dialog opens so you can set how often the routine runs and in which timezone. Once scheduled, its **Trigger** column shows **Schedule** and the **Schedule** column shows the cadence.

### Open a routine to edit it

Click the pencil icon, or click **New routine** for a brand-new one. The editor lets you change the name, build or reorder steps, and publish. See [Routine Detail](routine-detail.md).

### Review a routine's run history

Click the history icon on the row to open the routine's info view, where you can see how its recent runs went.

### Delete a routine

Click the × icon on the row. You'll be asked to confirm before it's removed. The × only appears on routines you created.

## Tips

- **Blog routines follow the Blog Plan.** The built-in Blog Content Creator uses the Blog Content Plan's pillar-spoke topic clusters to choose pillar or spoke posts, then reinforces relevant Search Strategy SEO internal-link targets from the body copy.
- **Success colors are a quick health check.** A high percentage shows in the normal color, the number turns amber as success dips, and red when it drops low. A run of red is a sign to open the routine and check its steps.
- **Trigger tells you how a routine starts.** **Schedule** means it runs on its own; **Manual** means it only runs when you open it and press Run.
- **Turning a routine off keeps it.** The routine stays in the list with its steps intact; it just stops running on its schedule. Turn the toggle back on to resume.
- **The × only shows on your own routines.** Built-in routines can't be deleted, so they have no delete icon.
- **Manage scripts before building.** If your routine will call a saved script, set it up first from **Manage scripts**. See [Scripts](scripts.md).
- **Permissions matter.** Editing routines requires the right access. Without it, a "Missing data:settings:write permission" hint appears, the buttons are disabled, and the status toggles can't be flipped. Ask an admin for edit access.

## Troubleshooting

- **The list says "No routines configured."** No routines exist yet. Click **New routine** to create your first one.
- **The list says "No routines match your filters."** Your **Search** text or **Status** choice has filtered everything out. Clear the search box and set **Status** to **All routines** to see everything.
- **It says "Loading routines…"** The list is still loading. It fills in on its own once the data arrives.
- **The toggles and buttons are disabled, and I see "Missing data:settings:write permission."** You don't have permission to edit routines. You can still view them, but turning them on or off, scheduling, editing, and deleting all require edit access. Ask an admin.
- **A routine has no Delete icon.** Delete is only available for routines you created. Built-in routines can't be removed here.
- **The Last run column shows "No runs yet."** The routine has never run. Schedule it, or open it and use Run now to trigger it.
