Domain Registration Terms

These Domain Registration Terms apply when you register, renew, or transfer a domain name through Cedros. They supplement the Terms of Service, including Section 28; capitalized words have the meaning given there. For domain matters, these terms control over the general Terms where they differ.

If you only connect a domain you registered somewhere else, Sections 9 and 10 are the parts that apply to you.

1. Who provides domain registration

Cedros is a reseller of domain registration services. Domains registered through Cedros are registered with Tucows Domains Inc. through its OpenSRS platform. Tucows is the registrar of record; Cedros is not an ICANN-accredited registrar.

Each domain is also subject to the rules of its registry (the operator of the ending, such as .com) and, for generic top-level domains, to ICANN policies.

2. Agreements you accept

By registering, renewing, or transferring a domain through Cedros, you agree to:

these Domain Registration Terms and the Terms of Service;
the Tucows Master Domain Registration Agreement, which is the registration agreement between you and the registrar;
the policies of the applicable registry; and
ICANN consensus policies that apply to the domain, including the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy.

3. You are the registrant

The person or organization named in the registrant contact you provide is the registrant and holds the registration. Cedros does not own a domain you register through it.

The registrant contact you enter is used for the owner, administrative, billing, and technical contacts, and is saved to your organization for later orders. You must:

provide accurate, complete, and current contact information;
update it promptly when it changes; and
respond to verification requests from the registrar.

The registrar is required to verify registrant contact details. If you do not complete verification, or your information is inaccurate, the registrar may suspend or cancel the domain. We share registrant contact information with the registrar and the registry as needed to provide the registration; see the Privacy Policy.

If you register a domain for someone else, such as a client, you must have their authority and give them control of the domain when they are entitled to it.

4. Availability and eligibility

A domain is not registered until the registrar confirms it. A search result showing a name as available is not a reservation.

Some endings have eligibility, residency, or content requirements set by their registry. You are responsible for meeting them.
Premium domains are not offered through Cedros.
Registrations are available for terms of one to ten years, depending on the ending.

You are responsible for making sure the name you choose does not infringe anyone else's rights.

5. Prices and payment

The price for a registration, renewal, or transfer is shown in U.S. dollars before you pay. You buy the domain from Cedros, and payment is collected through our payment processor. We submit the order to the registrar only after your payment is confirmed.

Prices vary by ending and can change. A renewal is charged at the price in effect when the renewal is charged.

6. Renewal and expiration

Cedros manages renewals; registrar-side automatic renewal is not used. Each domain has an automatic renewal setting that you control.

With automatic renewal on, the renewal charge is raised about 30 days before the domain expires. If you have authorized a payment method for this, we charge it. Otherwise we send you a payment link.
Payment must be received at least 7 days before the expiration date. If it is not, we do not renew the domain and it will expire.
With automatic renewal off, the domain expires at the end of its term unless you renew it yourself in time.

Renewal notices are sent to the registrant or account contacts, but you are responsible for renewing on time and for keeping your payment method and contact details current.

When a domain expires, its website, email, and other services stop working. For a limited time after expiration the registrar may allow the domain to be renewed or restored, usually for an additional fee; this is not guaranteed and depends on the ending. After that the domain may be deleted and registered by someone else. ICANN's Expired Registration Recovery Policy describes the minimum notices and recovery period for generic top-level domains. Contact us as soon as possible if a domain has expired and you want it back; we will tell you what is possible and the cost before you decide.

7. Refunds

If a registration cannot be completed after you pay, the payment is refunded.

Once a domain has been registered, renewed, or transferred, the fee is non-refundable, because the registry's charge to us is final. This does not limit any right you have under applicable law that cannot be waived. See the Refund Policy.

8. Transfers

Transferring a domain to Cedros. You need the authorization code from your current registrar, and the domain must be unlocked and eligible for transfer. A transfer usually extends the registration by one year and can take several days. We cannot control delays or refusals by the losing registrar.

Transferring a domain away from Cedros. A domain you registered is yours to move. To transfer it to another registrar, email [email protected] from an authorized account contact. We will unlock the domain and provide its authorization code after verifying your authority, unless a rule described below prevents it. We do not charge a fee to release a domain.

Transfers can be restricted by registrar, registry, and ICANN rules, for example during the first 60 days after a registration or a previous transfer, while a dispute or legal hold is pending, or while amounts for that domain are unpaid. See ICANN's Transfer Policy.

9. DNS and connected domains

Domains registered or transferred through Cedros use the registrar's managed DNS by default, and Cedros configures the records needed for your website and email. If you change records yourself, you are responsible for the result.

If you connect a domain registered elsewhere, you keep your existing registrar and remain responsible for renewing it there. You prove control by adding a verification record, and you either add the required records yourself or give Cedros limited access to your DNS provider to add them for you. You can revoke that access at any time.

Removing a domain from a Cedros site stops the site being served on that domain. It does not cancel the registration or change its renewal setting.

10. Cedros subdomains

A subdomain that Cedros provides with your site belongs to Cedros and is licensed to you while your account is in good standing. It is not registered to you and cannot be transferred. See Section 28 of the Terms.

11. Privacy of registration data

Where the ending supports it, privacy protection is turned on by default so that your contact details are not shown in public registration lookups. Some endings do not allow it. Privacy protection does not prevent disclosure that the registrar, a registry, ICANN policy, or the law requires.

12. Disputes, suspension, and cancellation

A domain can be suspended, locked, transferred, or cancelled by the registrar or registry under their agreements and policies, including to correct mistakes, to follow a dispute-resolution decision or court order, or because registrant information is inaccurate.

Cedros may suspend the domain services it provides, or ask the registrar to act, where a domain is used in violation of the Acceptable Use Policy, where payment for the domain is reversed or charged back, or where the law requires it.

Cedros does not decide disputes over who is entitled to a name. Those are handled under the UDRP, the registry's policies, or by a court.

13. If your Cedros account ends

Closing your Cedros account does not by itself cancel a domain registered to you. Before you close your account, transfer the domain to another registrar or tell us you want to keep it until it expires. We stop renewing it when the account ends.
