Use this guide to replace your site logo, set its brand accent, and adjust the colors and fonts used by your website theme.
These changes have two different save paths:
- Logo and Brand color: edit Settings → Site → Your brand. Changes autosave to the site.
- Website colors and typography: choose a library theme or upload a custom theme file, then review and apply it from Settings → Appearance.
The Brand color field supplies a branding accent for browsers and other places that display your site's identity. It is separate from your website theme's background, text, link, and button colors.
Prepare your brand assets
Before changing anything, keep a copy of your current logo and note the current brand color and applied theme. If a designer maintains your theme, keep the original theme file or ask them to preserve the applied version.
Have these ready:
- A clear logo file. SVG, PNG, or WebP with a transparent background usually works well. Check that the mark remains recognizable at a small size and against both light and dark backgrounds.
- Your approved color values, if you have them. Use a hex value such as #2f6c7d rather than trying to match a color by eye.
- The heading and body fonts you want to use. If supplying font files, make sure they are intended for use on your website.
You need permission to edit site settings and themes. Logo uploads and adding font files also require media access. If controls are missing or disabled, see Why can’t I see or edit a feature?.
Replace your site logo
- Open Settings → Site and find Your brand.
- Select the logo tile. It is labeled Replace logo when a logo is already set, or Choose logo when none is set.
- Choose Upload logo to select an image from your computer, or Choose from media library to use an existing image.
- Wait for the upload or selection to finish. Read any error or icon-generation warning.
- Allow the page to autosave before leaving. Then open the public site in a separate tab and check the logo.
A preview of the selected file can appear before the upload and save have finished. Seeing the new image in the tile alone does not confirm that visitors can see it. If the page reports a save error, keep the page open, resolve the error, and verify the saved selection before continuing.
The logo supplies the site's shared branding and is also used to generate browser-tab and installed-app icons. Images placed directly inside individual pages are separate; replacing the site logo does not replace every image containing your old brand. Check those pages and update their image blocks where needed. See Adding images, videos, and downloads to a page.
Remove clears the site's logo selection. It does not delete the original file from your media library. To restore a previous logo, select it again from the library or upload your saved copy.
The site title also matters: Cedros uses it for the brand name and the default logo description. Keep it current in Site title and description. See Setting up your business information.
Set the site brand color
- In Your brand, find Brand color.
- Enter a three- or six-digit hex value with a leading #, or select the color swatch to use the picker.
- If you want a starting point from your logo, wait until the logo is saved, then choose Match my logo.
- Review the selected color and allow the page to autosave.
Match my logo reads the saved logo and updates the color when it finds a suitable value. Treat it as a change that will autosave, not a preview-only suggestion. If Cedros cannot find a distinct color, enter one yourself.
Reset to default clears your chosen brand color and returns to the default slate. It does not reset the website theme.
The visible effect depends on the browser or app displaying your site. A saved brand color does not recolor all website buttons or backgrounds. For those changes, continue with the theme steps below.
Choose a theme or prepare a design update
Open Settings → Appearance → Theme → Browse themes to compare designs. If a library theme already has the colors and typography you want, follow Choosing and applying a theme.
For a custom design, ask your designer or developer for a Cedros theme JSON file. Give them your existing theme, approved colors, heading and body fonts, and examples of the pages you want to improve. For a small update, ask them to preserve the layout and other styling you already use.
Keep the previous theme file before uploading an update. A file with the same theme ID replaces its saved library entry. To keep both designs in the library, ask the creator to supply the new design with a separate ID.
Developers can follow Building a reusable theme for the theme format, palettes, typography, and packaging.
Check the website's colors
Review both the light and dark palettes in the proposed design. Check these combinations on real content:
- Body text against the page background, including small captions and helper text.
- Links against surrounding text, so readers can recognize what they can open.
- Button labels against button backgrounds, including secondary actions.
- Form labels, errors, borders, and keyboard focus indicators.
- Muted text against cards and other background areas.
Give your designer specific feedback, such as “The contact form's helper text is too faint in dark mode.” Keep error messages understandable in words as well as color, and avoid using a light brand color for small text on a white background.
Choose heading and body fonts
Ask for a heading font that works with long titles and a body font that stays comfortable in paragraphs. Start with one family for each role and only the weights and styles your content needs.
If using a custom web font, ask the creator to include its files or provide reliable public URLs and confirm that you may use the font on your website. A font installed on your computer is not automatically available to visitors. Keep the font files with your design assets, along with their usage terms.
Review text size, line spacing, button labels, and navigation on a phone. Check the characters needed for every language you publish. Try a device that does not have the font installed to confirm that the website loads it correctly.
Upload, review, and apply the theme
- In Settings → Appearance → Theme → Browse themes, select Upload theme.
- Select the Cedros theme JSON file. Selecting it starts the import immediately, so confirm first whether it replaces an existing library entry.
- Wait for the theme review to open. If validation fails, send the exact message to the creator and ask for a corrected file.
- Compare the design with your current theme using Preview theme and check Light and Dark under Preview appearance. A preview labeled sample uses example content; check your own published pages too.
- When ready, select Apply theme, read the confirmation, and confirm Apply theme.
- Open the public website and check the result on desktop and mobile.
Importing saves the theme to the library; applying it changes the live design. Saved update means the new library version is not live yet. The custom-theme guide explains imports and recovery in more detail.
Logo and Brand color changes autosaved in Settings → Site are independent of the theme. Applying an earlier theme does not undo those separate changes.
Check consistency and fix problems
After the changes are saved and the theme is applied, inspect the homepage, a content-heavy page, a blog post, and a docs article where applicable. Check on a phone as well as a desktop, and in each appearance mode your site offers.
Look for a readable logo, comfortable paragraph text, headings that fit, visible button labels, and clear form states. Try keyboard navigation to check focus indicators. Check any translated content you publish, particularly if it uses characters your chosen font may not include.
The website colors did not change. Confirm that you edited the theme palette, not only Site's Brand color, and that you applied the saved theme. A Saved update is not live yet.
The logo looks blurry or too small. Check the original image's quality and unnecessary empty space around the mark. Use a clearer export rather than repeatedly enlarging a small bitmap.
The header logo changed but the browser icon did not. Read the warning in Your brand. If Cedros could not generate icons from an SVG, use a PNG or WebP version as instructed. If no warning appears, compare a fresh browser window; browser icons and installed-app artwork may refresh separately from page content.
The font looks correct only on my computer. Ask the theme creator to check its font files and URLs. A font name alone can fall back to a different font on another device. Import and review the corrected theme, then apply it and test again.
One page still uses the old styling. Check for colors or fonts set directly on its blocks, a shared layout, or a separately configured feature. A theme change does not necessarily override every local style. See Building a page with the visual editor.
I need to undo the update. Reselect the previous logo and restore the noted Brand color in Site settings. For colors and typography, review and apply the preserved earlier theme. Switching themes does not undo the separate logo or Brand color settings.
If the problem persists, include the page address, theme name, appearance mode, device/browser, screenshots, and any exact error when asking for help.
