Controlling payment methods by country

Choose payment methods for country groups, set a fallback, and preview and save regional checkout rules in Cedros Pay.

Choose which payment methods customers can use in different countries under Extension Settings → Pay hub → Availability. Set a default for everyone else, add country groups, and preview the result before saving.

These settings control payment choices for one-time storefront checkout. Set up the methods you intend to offer first: Stripe, Crypto, or site account balances (Credits).

Understand regions and the fallback

A region is a named group of countries with its own accepted payment methods. A country can belong to only one region.

Everywhere else supplies the fallback methods for countries outside your groups. It also applies when the site cannot identify a customer's country.

A region uses its own selected methods instead of adding them to the fallback. For example, if your fallback accepts cards and Crypto but your United States region accepts only cards, customers assigned to that region receive the card option only.

Selecting no methods blocks checkout for that region. Leaving Fallback methods empty blocks checkout for unmatched and unknown countries. Review these choices carefully before saving changes on a live store.

Turn on regional rules

  1. Open Extension Settings → Pay hub → Availability.
  2. Turn on Enable regional payment availability. The status changes to Regional rules on.
  3. Under Everywhere else → Fallback methods, select the methods you want to offer outside your country groups.
  4. Review any existing regions before adding or changing rules.

The method labels are Credit and debit cards (Stripe), Stablecoin (x402), and Cedros credits. Stablecoin refers to the payment method configured in the Crypto tab.

A Not ready label means the method is not ready for checkout. Selecting its checkbox does not finish its setup. Open the corresponding Pay hub tab, resolve the setup issue, then return to Availability to check the result.

Availability changes require Save availability. Editing a checkbox or turning on regional rules does not save the change automatically.

Add a country group

  1. Choose Add region.
  2. Enter a clear Region name, such as “Card payments in Canada.”
  3. In Countries, find a country and choose Add, or press Enter. Confirm that it appears in the selected-country list.
  4. Repeat for the other countries in the group.
  5. Under Accepted methods, select the complete set of methods those customers should receive.

A new region starts with Stablecoin selected. Review that choice even if you intend to offer only cards or Credits.

Each region needs a name and at least one country. If a country is already in another region, remove it from that region before adding it to the new one. Changing the order of your groups does not resolve overlapping countries.

To remove a country, use the remove button beside its name. To delete an entire group, choose Remove region. Once the change is saved, countries no longer assigned to a region use Everywhere else unless you add them to another group.

Use the US and EU preset

Apply US + EU cards preset provides a starting arrangement:

  • The United States and the European Union countries listed in the preset accept cards and Stablecoin.
  • Everywhere else accepts Stablecoin only.
  • Credits is not selected in either group.

The preset turns regional rules on and replaces the rules currently shown in the editor. Review your existing arrangement before applying it, then adjust the countries and methods to suit your store. Check the actual country list; the preset is not a group for every European country.

The preset is still a draft until you choose Save availability. If Crypto is not ready, its Stablecoin-only fallback leaves unmatched and unknown countries without a payment option.

Preview and save your changes

Use Preview → Market country to choose a country. The result shows the methods allowed by the current draft that are also ready for use.

Preview one country from every region and at least one country outside all your regions. If a region intentionally blocks checkout, confirm that its preview says No payment methods available. Review Everywhere else separately for customers whose country cannot be identified.

The preview uses the changes currently on screen, including unsaved edits. It does not change your own location, save the rules, or complete a test payment.

When the results match your intended arrangement:

  1. Choose Save availability.
  2. Wait for Regional payment availability saved. If an error appears, correct it and save again.
  3. Reopen Availability and confirm that the rules and fallback are still correct.
  4. Open the public storefront and check the payment choices in the affected checkout flow.

Use a controlled test environment to complete a purchase with each method you plan to offer. A method appearing in Preview does not confirm that a buyer can finish payment. The payments introduction covers checking the payment record and resulting order or access.

Check how the customer's country is determined

Checkout uses the country identified by the site's trusted country-detection setup. Changing a browser language or entering a different shipping country is not a reliable way to test a regional payment rule.

Ask your administrator to confirm how the site identifies shopper countries and how to test the intended countries in your test environment. If the site has no country for a customer, the Everywhere else fallback applies.

These payment rules do not configure shipping destinations or tax rules. Review those settings separately, and test subscriptions or other purchase flows separately from one-time storefront checkout.

Change or turn off the rules

To change a region, edit its countries or methods, preview the affected countries, and choose Save availability. Review the fallback whenever you remove a country or region.

To stop restricting payment methods by country, turn off Enable regional payment availability and save. The page shows All globally enabled methods available. Each method still needs to be configured and supported by the checkout being used.

Turning the switch off retains your country groups in the editor's saved settings. Review them before turning regional rules on again.

Troubleshoot missing methods or save errors

  • A selected method is missing from Preview: check for Not ready, then complete that payment method's setup.
  • A country receives unexpected methods: check its selected-country group. If it is not in any group, review Everywhere else.
  • A region has no payment options: check whether its method selection is empty or all selected methods are not ready.
  • You cannot save a region: give it a name, add at least one country, and resolve countries appearing in more than one group.
  • The public checkout differs from Preview: confirm the changes were saved, reopen Availability, and ask your administrator to check the country identified for that checkout. Also check the product, payment setup, and any sign-in or balance requirements.
  • Settings will not load: use the displayed retry action. If the error says the stored availability is invalid, ask your administrator for help before replacing the existing rules.

For help, collect the public checkout URL, affected country, expected and displayed methods, and the visible error. See Getting help and reporting a problem.
